Summer Budget Travel Tips from Gadling

Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest, Oct. 29, Key Largo

Maybe you like Halloween but hate dressing up and going door-to-door with children barely one-third your age. If you're like me, then grab your gear, dive knife, and hop into the waters of Key Largo to carve a pumpkin with your fellow costume-haters.

The "skills competition," as sponsor Amoray's Dive Resort calls it, is part of a day-long boat trip. The boat crew will judge the results, pick winners, and hand out "cool" prizes. There is no entry fee although you do need to pay the standard fee for a two-tank boat dive, $70. It seems fitting the first place winner receive a refund of the boat fee but that's only a suggestion.

Space is limited so contact Amoray's Dive Resort if you're interested in trying your skills at handling sharp knives underwater. Don't forget that sharks can smell blood from miles away.

Let us know the outcome and whether or not the Amoray staff was dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow and his pirate crew from the Black Pearl.
