A 35-year-old Singaporean man is believed to have smuggled 630 endangered Asian Softshell Turtles from Indonesia's Riau province last week. Singaporean officials arrested the man, who will be charged under recently-implemented legislation covering the illegal trade of endangered species. Most likely destined to become either soup or herbal turtle jelly -- which is believed to keep youthfulness and improve organ functions -- the street value of the endangered turtles is roughly $50,000. The smuggler faces a fine of up to $316,000 and a maximum jail term of 2 years.
