In an effort to promote humpback whale conservation, Stop Whaling is sponsoring a Whale Remix contest. Both amateur and pro DJs are invited to create their own 60-second mashups by downloading sample humpback whale songs and mixing the animals' calls into a song to "show the world how beautiful these gentle giants really are." If you're wondering how good whale songs could sound, check out some of the samples they've got posted on their site. They're really impressive.
Each mashup must incorporate at least 2 distinct whale sounds into their CC-licensed song. Get mixing: all entries must be received by June 11, 2006, but the Grand Prize winner walks away with the new 60GB video iPod. If you were looking for a reason to swim with humpbacks in Tonga, now you've got one!
