In 1992, orthodontist Dr. Randall Moles invented the SeaCURE Custom Mouthpiece, a moldable mouthpiece that any diver can easily mold. According to Moles,
it's easy to mold your own mouthpiece: "Just dunk the unit in hot water for about 30 seconds. Then shake off the hot water and place it in your
mouth and bite down." Even if you mis-mold the mouthpiece the first time -- or you get dental work that
changes the shape of your jaw or your bite -- don't worry: re-dunk the SeaCURE and re-mold it. Simple. The SeaCURE fits
most regs. If
you experience headaches when diving, it might be because of jaw fatigue brought on by biting down on your mouthpiece.
Consequently, the SeaCURE should help alleviate that problem.
When I was
younger, I had problems with standard mouthpieces. I chewed through my first one after only a few dozen dives. I
don't know if it was nerves, an ill-fitting mouthpiece, or the fact that the hose to my second stage wasn't long
enough, but I bit right through the left-hand side of that rubber mouthpiece one afternoon. Fortunately, it was easy to
replace. Happily, I haven't had too many problems in the past few years. However, had I known about the SeaCURE, I
might've invested in one.

1. My wife has TMJ, and before she had even finished her qualification dives she was in agony. The dive shop convinced her to get a SeaCURE, and it's made all the difference. Highly recommended.
