Jack Connick's Excellent Optical Ocean

I stumbled on a new dive blog today, and boy, is it great. Jack Connick, a Seattle resident who’s been diving for the past 6 years, writes the Optical Ocean blog, which, as you may be able to guess, deals with underwater photography as its primary focus. In addition to showcasing his considerable skill, and providing some brief trip reports, Connick also provides underwater imaging tips (like his 7 Tips for Inon External Lenses & Ikelite Housings) and a hands-on review of Ikelite’s housing for Fuji’s F810 Camera.

After reading what he has to say, head over to his images on Flickr. Be certain to check out his Truk Lagoon photo set as well his Palau photostream. In addition to documenting his dive trips, his macro shots – especially those dealing with nudibranchs or those he shot in the Channel Islands – are exquisite.

1. Thanks Willy! I'm new to the blogging world and it's nice to see people enjoy my efforts.

I have quite a few older and longer trip reports and many more photos from Truk, Palau, Fiji, La Paz and the Pacific Northwest and Canada on my older website; http://OpticalOcean.com. I'll try to add some better links to those reports off the blog soon.

The Optical Ocean blog will also cover sailing as well as diving in the Pacific Northwest as the weather gets better and I'm able to take the boat out.

If anyone has any questions on destinations, photos or whatever I'm happy to answer emails or comments left on the blog.

5. Boy, those are old now, film from a P&S (that's a Piece of S**t) camera. Doesn't hold up with more recent work. Was a great trip, except for the heat exhaustion and dysentery from the bad chicken on the day boat. But I met Shai and other Israelis who I remain friends with.

Will maybe have to think about scheduling another Red Sea trip in the future...If I really get bored, I'll look through the albums and scan a few pics.

6. Jack and I are, practically neighbors :) I'm glad to see other people diving and blogging in Seattle.

Jack- one of these days you and I should go diving so we can actually get photos of ourselves in the water (its great to have a friend who's handy with a camera).

8. I am a big fan of underwater photography and, in general, of everithing that is underwater. I just visited the Optical Ocean blog and I just love it.
