This is odd. A stranded New Zealand diver, refuses to be rescued by a helicopter because he is afraid of heights.
Seems a buddy team was stranded on a rock, one buddy goes up and the other diver waves the helicopter off and the
police sent out a boat instead. His explaination: He's afraid of heights.
This quote by the helicopter pilot sums is all up:
"I have been working on the helicopter for nearly 15 years and although I have seen people reluctant to be rescued, I have never met anyone who flatly refused.
Weird.

1. I would assume if heights were my greatest fear, being rescued from a scary situation and being thrown into an even worse one would not be my choice either. Since they already knew where he was it could not have been too hard to find and save the guy by boat. As much as it is weird I could definitely see where he is coming from.
