One of my favorite dive trips was to the East End of Grand Cayman. We stayed at the Cayman Dive Lodge, and the experience was exactly what I had in mind: great diving, great food, great beach, and nothing but divers. While I was initially put off by the “family style” dining CDL offered, I quickly warmed to it, as I got to hear great stories during each meal from other divers. Unfortunately, in September 2004, Hurricane Ivan literally flattened CDL.
Whereas the previous CDL had one small building and a vacant swath of beach to the east, the new design features a small “lodge” property with ten oceanfront rooms on the same parcel as the old CDL. Moreover, the design envisions ten one-bedroom suites on the (formerly vacant) parcel to the east. According to Jim, “these suites could be sold as condominiums but put back into the resort rental pool for use by guests when not in use by the individual owners (who will receive a return on the bookings).” Cool idea. Ultimately, Jim is interested in divers’ opinions and is curious if anyone is interested in owning a “piece” of CDL by purchasing one of the suites.
Good luck, Jim. I can’t wait to visit again.
