I love Scuba Diving’s Scuba Lab. I think they do a great job comparing various pieces of dive gear and provide very clear, layman-esue explanations for their ratings. I am a bit skeptical, though, since products rarely receive below a “very good performer” rating. Are they just being kind? Do they only write a review of a product if they have something nice to write? I wonder. (I’d love to see them write, “Product X totally sucked! We can’t believe it’s on the market!”)
Anyway, in this Lab, the testers review 19 different lights, including primary lights, backup lights, and tank markers. In addition to traditional halogen and xenon bulbs, the testers also reviewed lights incorporating LED and HID bulbs. If you’re looking into a new dive light, head on over and check out the review. And yes, the worst light was still deemed “very good.”
