And now, for another underwater photography contest…
The creepily-named SERPENT (“Scientific and Environmental ROV Partnership using Existing iNdustrial Technology”) project collaborates with the oil and gas industry to make cutting-edge ROV technology and data accessible to the science community. In an effort to widen SEPRENT’s exposure, so to speak, they’re sponsoring the BP Kongsberg Underwater Image Competition. This deepwater photography contest is seeking entries in 5 categories – Underwater Images (>200m depth); Technical Underwater Images (>200m depth); Microscopic/ specimen images of deep; Fieldwork/ experimental set-up/ vessels & vehicles/ equipment; and Underwater video footage.
Judges are looking for visual excellence, the importance to science, the novelty, the rarity of the subject, and the way photographers capture the essence of the deep ocean and how it is explored. All submissions must be in SERPENT’s hands by early-June, 2006. For the complete rules, visit SERPENT’s website.
