Sometimes I find dive boats inconvenient. I wish for a vehicle that that I could drive on the road to the water. Also, I wish my vehicle could drive into the water and ultimately cruise underwater to my chosen dive spot. Of course, the vehicle has to be able to anchor and support diving activities for two. When the dive is finished, I’d like to surface, return to land, drive out of the water and go home. I mean, geez, is this too much to ask? I think this is a great idea. I think I’ll invent it.
Unfortunately, Belgian diving enthusiast and inventor René Baldewijns beat me to the punch. The Amfibidiver does all those things. Ultimately – ironically – after building the prototype, Rene suffered ear-related problems, which ended his diving. Nevertheless, Gizmag has the details of the Amfibidiver, plus talks about Baldewijns' next project -- a car that flies!
