Swimming/Walking with Turtles

turtle Everyone wants to hang with the dolphins. There is obviously a built-in notion in our heads that the dolphins are creatures most like us. They are intelligent and nice (untrue...the nice part, I mean) and when it comes down to it, man, do we seek companionship on this great big spinning ball. We really are The Lonely Species.

Well, in our quest to find fun animals with whom to frolic underwater and out, some are turning to our curious amphibious friend called the turtle. According to this piece in the Times today, turtle trips are all the rage these days. Some tour operator are saying that interest in turtle trips  have jumped 30 percent since they started offering them years ago. Makes sense to me, in a way. Some of the best dives I've ever had were those where I got to see turtles. Huge ones off the coast of Hawaii for example.
