Divers To Spend 10 Days Underwater

diverUsually, I think we here at Divester do a great job of blogging scuba news in a timely fashion. However, somehow, for some reason, this one got away from us.

Last week, two Italian divers – Stefano Barbaresi and Stefania Mensa – started their attempt to break the record for longest time underwater: they want to spend 10 whole days blowing bubbles! Submerged near the Italian island of Ponza, the couple has beds, exercise machines, a table, chairs and even a television — all of which are anchored to the sea floor. Although they’re underwater the entire time, every five to six hours, they enter a dry chamber to eat, change masks, and undergo medical examinations. (Do you consider that cheating?)

If they complete their challenge – which they should, tomorrow – they will have spent 240 hours underwater, doubling the previous record of 120 hours set by Jerry Hall, and rendering Will Goodman’s preparations somehow moot.

[Thanks, Drew!]
