WoW Insider is getting ready for BlizzCon!

"Is It Real?" Reviewed

NessieAfter Erik mentioned it, I watched Is It Real? last night. It was much better than I expected. The show traces the history of human’s fascination with various Lake Creatures/Serpents/Monsters/Whathaveyous. Although sightings have been reported as far back as the 6th Century, the real serpent-fervor didn’t hit its heyday until the 1930’s when Nessie became popular.

Evidently, lake serpents have been spotted all over the world, including in England, San Francisco, Sweden (where the animal has been placed on the Endangered Species List), Lake Champlain (it's known as Champ …) and in Canada’s Lake Okanagan. The show features some colorful characters, who swear by the sightings, juxtaposed with some rather staid scuba diving researchers trying to determine whether or not the animals exist. It was very entertaining, although my wife refused to sit still and watch it with me. No matter; I got the sofa all to myself…

(Is It Real? airs every Monday, so check back for re-runs, or to find out when the episode on Spontaneous Human Combustion airs! Wow, is THAT real?!)

Other underwater creatures (that may or may not exist):

Iran’s Runan-Shah

Scottish Water Monsters

Megalodon
