If you’re toying with signing up for the Ultimate Antarctic Diving Voyage, maybe this new concept vehicle will encourage you. Developed by designer James Moon in conjunction with the British Antarctic Survey, the new 2-person, environmentally–responsible vehicle for Arctic exploration is, in a word: cool. The vehicle, dubbed “Ninety Degrees South,” keeps drivers safe, warm, and protected from the high levels UV exposure that occur under the Antarctic sun. The kicker: “Ninety” uses a scouting GPS unit that’s tethered to the main unit, but travels in advance of it, to hunt for possible crevasses.
Unfortunately, this press release is pretty much a back-slapping affair and doesn’t provide much real information. (For example: In what way is the vehicle “eco-friendly”? What kind of fuel does it use?) Nevertheless, the photo of “Ninety” gets my inner geek going. I can’t afford the Antarctic Diving Adventure, but on my drive home tonight, I’m going to imagine taking “Ninety” out to do some bitchin’ ice diving. And after that, I'll drive it to take the world's hottest shower.
